Our Director: Sandra Swimmer

Sandra Swimmer, Ms. Sandy, is the director and the supervising teacher at Building Bridges Preschool. She is a CA credentialed elementary school teacher and is certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid. She has completed the BTSA induction program for the No Child Left Behind initiative putting her at the highest level of qualifications for a credentialed teacher. She has had experience teaching in elementary school classrooms at a variety of different grade levels. Her passion for teaching inspired her to create this program designed to help your child build bridges toward a future of educational success.

Sandra is a Lafayette resident and the mother of two beautiful daughters. Her oldest is a college graduate and her youngest attends Acalanes High School.

 

Teacher: Nicole Damhesel
Nicole has over 12 years of experience teaching at local area preschools. She has been with Building Bridges for 5 years and not only is she a treasure in the classroom, she is a vital contributer to our curriculum development and teacher training program. Nicole is certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid. She is a proud mother of a beautiful young daughter. Nicole has lived in Lamorinda her entire life and is happy to be raising her children in this wonderful community.

 

Teacher: Sarah Beth Pruitt
Sarah worked as a Nanny in Lafayette prior to coming to teach at Building Bridges. She has a passion for young children and brings that excitement to her work. She is currently studying child development at DVC.

 

Substitute Teacher: Linda Woodhouse
Known as Grandma Linda, Linda is Ms. Sandy's mother and inspiration for teaching. She is a retired CA credentialed elementary school teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience. She is also certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid. Linda fills in as a substitute teacher during staff vacations and other absenses. She is also the original chicken farmer of the family and so contributes her expertise and her much appreciated start-up equipment to the program.

 

Volunteer Helper: Sierra
Sierra is a local high school student who volunteers at Building Bridges for fun, experience, and to bolster her baby-sitting business. She helps with playground play, craft time, clean-up, and anything else the teachers ask of her. She has a tremendous work ethic and an energetic happy attitude. Her availability for babysitting is a wonderful resource to our parents as the children love her.

 

Business Manager: Michelle Self (Shelly)
Shelly is Ms. Sandy's sister. She works limited hours with Building Bridges in an administrative capacity. Shelly has lived in Lafayette for over 20 years. She is a Civil Engineer and business owner of a Walnut Creek technology firm, CAD Masters, Inc. Her many years of business experience lend well to allowing Sandy and her staff to focus primarily on the children and the curriculum. Shelly is the proud parent of a son and daughter who both attend Acalanes High School. As an earth enthusiast, she is excited about contributing to the aggricultural program at Building Bridges with composting and worm farming, as well as the chicken program.
